Norwalk-based artist Lori DuBois grew up in a family of artists. “I picked up a paintbrush way before I picked up a pencil,” says DuBois. Her comfort with the medium shows: DuBois’ works often depict serene scenes of seascapes and landscapes, meant to soothe the viewer above all else.
Her mother’s passing influenced this mission of hers, as she recalls the two seeing photographs of drills or buildings—loud, harsh objects—and her mother telling her, “We could do so much better than that.” Ultimately, DuBois strives to “bring peace and calm into your home.”

Art Benefit for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Greenwich, CT – The "Artful Serendipity" exhibit, at the Greenwich Art Society gallery, featured a curated collection of original paintings by Lori DuBois-Caruso and Amy Kaplan, plus a Silent Auction to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A FORTUNATE HAPENSTANCE
The featured artists believe their meeting was orchestrated by serendipity, a "fortunate happenstance" or "pleasant surprise". By chance, or not, Lori and Amy met by repeatedly running into each other at a number of art shows; in fact, on one occasion, twice in the same day! As they became friends, they realized their art was very complementary in style and synergy. Amy said, “Lori and I seemed to feel a kinship and a connection through our art.”
THE ART OF GIVING
In addition to Lori and Amy’s coincidental meetings, there was another unexpected and very significant meeting at a spring art show. Angelica Yika-Nacarino, a young artist, exhibiting her own watercolor, in the middle school category, was spotted admiring one of Lori’s paintings. An introduction lead to the opportunity for Lori to become acquainted with Angelica’s impressive work. Lori mentioned, “although I received an award at the show, the real honor was being recognized by a young artist with so much potential.”
Later this talented 13-year artist joined forces with Lori and Amy and dedicated one of her best works to the memory of her 6-year old cousin who lost his battle with leukemia. Angelica summed it best as she described the inspiration for her shell painting being the beauty of the shell as a hard protective shield for something so precious inside; comparing cancer trying to break through but never reaching the soul.
The hope is with the support of research, we will provide the beauty of a shell to protect every child affected with the disease.
The event was well synchronized with the spirit of giving, thanks to caring hearts, a love of art and special supporters.

STAMFORD, CT – (April 10) SAFAVIEH Home Furnishings Flagship showroom in Stamford CT will open a unique exhibition featuring Connecticut artist Lori Dubois. The Original art of Lori DuBois will include nearly 30 works which introduce the blend of realistic and abstract views of nature and movement. The exhibition will provide an opportunity to view unique abstract fine art originals incorporated into well-appointed SAFAVIEH home furnishing designer showcases.
About the artist: Originally from New York, art was the fabric of her family with many artists relatives. While in NY, she held a career in graphic design and later returned to her painting roots. Her love of the shoreline brought her to CT to focus on creating soothing renderings of natural surroundings. Her awarded works, rendered primarily in acrylic, are well known for capturing the essence of the sea, earth and ever-changing skyline. “How fortunate we are to have nature’s symphony of color and subjects as a backdrop for our lives.”
SAFAVIEH Home Furnishings president Michael Yaraghi, recognized the need to avail clients with one-of-a-kind design solutions and called upon the awarded talent of local artist DuBois to enhance the personalized home design experience with original paintings. “Art speaks to everyone; her original works bring a sense of beauty and timeless quality to their settings.”
This exhibition beautifully combines fine art and fascination for nature with home design and individual style innovation. The reception on April 28th, 6:00pm – 8:00pm is open to the public at Safavieh’ s Stamford showroom, 230 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT 06901.
